With the weather getting warmer here now, my husband and I will start renovating our home at a faster rate. We hope to take advantage of the nicer weather outside to get a lot more projects completed. If you have been following me on Instagram you know there is a lot more going on than just home renovation and your messages and support are always so kind. Thank you.
With so many projects up ahead I realized that in order to be able to complete them (and stay sane ?) I needed a place to retreat to and wind down at the end of the day. A place where I can go to relax and recharge for the next day of work. And unfortunately I did not have one.
Behold my very sad master bedroom.
We literally moved in and planted our furniture in the space. The only thing that changed was the carpet (yep, the one that sent me to the hospital, remember that?).
It was boring and it had golden walls. I hadn’t made an effort to put any decor up and each corner had little bits of clutter here and there. Frankly, at the end of the day I was just too tired and since no one ever saw our bedroom, it remained neglected.
I am not going to lie, sharing these images on here is a little embarrassing, but even us DIYers often have these “dirty little secrets”.
I literally had a moving box (unpacked) by the door. Yep!
It was pretty bad and I had to do something about it before we continued on with our renovations. So I came up with the following mood board for the room.
I knew I wanted calm colors for the space and I wanted to create a brick accent wall. But I couldn’t do real brick since I was on a strict budget. However, I still wanted to get the look. I also needed to keep my all white bedroom furniture (again budget) so I had to darken the walls a bit to balance it out.
Below was my vision and I was really looking forward to getting started.
While I was actually making plans for this space the opportunity to work with Purple became available and I was beyond excited! We love Purple mattresses. As a matter of fact, we purchased one a couple of years ago and talked about it on our channel.
We had purchased the original purple mattress and it has done very well for us, but now there are so many options as far as mattresses go. These beds are like no other and give you the best sleep. They have the most unique design and technology behind them.
Here are some fun facts…
Purple was started by 2 brothers: an actual rocket scientist and a tech comfort genius. They originally began their work to develop better cushions for wheelchairs. It soon evolved into more comfortable medical beds and then finally they were able to bring the comfort right home to you and me. Their hyper elastic gel grid technology is what makes this mattress so unique.
This mattress’s special grid offers durability, cooling features that prevent you from getting too hot at night, and giving you maximum support without the unnecessary pressure. The best thing about it is that it takes care of all our sleeping needs (even if my husband and I have different preferences on comfort).
The Purple 4 is so much thicker than our last mattress. We decided to go with the Purple 4 because my husband is big guy who sleeps on his side snuggled with a ton of pillows (don’t tell him I said that). I am less “high maintenance” and prefer to sleep on my back, however, there is one thing we both love and that is feeling like we are sleeping on a cloud. As time goes by we both have come to appreciate softer surfaces to rest on.
The Purple 4 provides us with just that. And while the original is still a great mattress, the difference in “lightness” is significant. It’s sturdy, yet soft at the same time.
The original is a comfortable mattress, but is more firm. The Purple 4 gives me the support I need sleeping on my back while making it extremely comfortable for my husband to sleep on his side. We wake up even more rested now (the only reason it can be hard to get out of bed, is because we are so comfortable in it).
It features a nice sleek look with a smooth quilted exterior.
Their pillows also feature their hyper elastic gel grid technology!
And not only do they have mattresses and pillows, but they have the most amazing soft stretchy sheets. They come in several different colors now which makes this “neutral loving” lady so happy.
If you haven’t tried out Purple or wish to get more information on their sleep options, definitely check out Purple to see everything they have to offer. We even included more information in our video below!
BELOW you can watch how we transformed our new master bedroom STEP by STEP!
Here is what the room looks like now…
So much better!
That my friends is a faux brick wall made from these panels you can by at your local hardware store. They look so real you would NEVER guess they weren’t. The full step by step instructions are in the video above.
And can we talk about those walls? They are no longer golden!
The color is Clean Slate by Magnolia.
I solved the small clutter issue by adding several storage pieces to the room in order to gather all the knick knacks. This allowed me to keep the room pretty simple.
And then I made sure to add tons of layers of sheets and comforters on top of my new mattress so that it had that luxury hotel feel. My husband thinks it’s a bit much (LOL), but it feels like heaven!
I created a sitting area where the huge armoire used to be.
My husband wants to leave it out of the bedroom and I am not sure I am convinced yet so we will see how that goes. ?
I added soft linen looking curtains on both sides of the window to soften the brick wall up. The walls are still a little bare but I hope to add some pieces to make it more homey. Right now I am just enjoying that brick wall.
I did bring back my DIY sunburst mirror that I created in my last home. It had been in the basement stored all this time and it’s so good to see it back up. That sunburst is one my favorite DIY’s of all time.
But look at that wall! It’s my most favorite wall in the house now. The space just looks so different with it. And since my home is completely brick on the outside, the brick wall is not out of place. It feels as if it was there all along.
My husband was skeptical of it at first, but I think I convinced him. ?
And what about all those pillows? They may be a pain to put back on every morning, but it’s so worth it!
The room feels like a getaway now.
What do you think of the new master bedroom? Do you like the changes? What do you think I should add to the bare walls? Should I bring the armoire back? Inquiring minds want to know….
One thing is for sure, I am so happy that I now have a space for my husband and I to relax. And we are so happy we are getting even better rest with our new purple mattress. The combination of better sleep and a calming space makes for a better wake up in the morning.
Don’t forget to check out more on all your sleep options here my friends! I cannot wait to enjoy this mattress for years to come.
Wishing you all sweet dreams….
I will see you back here soon!
Until then… adios!
Hi! I found from YT when searching for trim DIYs. I’ve enjoyed your videos and tips.
You encourage the SW paint. Store says I have to get Extra White in Hi-Hide base, hope that doesn’t make a difference.
Having worked with this paint for so long, I’m looking for some advice. My husband and I want to paint *before* installing the trim, then spackle/touch up after it’s up. It seems easier for us to paint first at waist level than on a ladder. I plan to wait the week for paint to set before installing trim. What do you think of this process? 🙂
You can definitely do it that way. It is just a matter of preference. I just don’t like seeing little patches of paint over the trim which is why I like doing it all at once.
I love the brick wall. I would bring the armoire back. I like the look. Just my thoughts.
Thank you!
