DIY Spring Farmhouse Sign
Happy Monday! I am so happy to start a new week. Last week was brutal. Not only did I feel terrible, but the rain in Georgia just keeps pouring from the heavens and my two older kids had parent teacher conferences, and they also were released early from school 2 days this week… and did I mention it won’t stop raining?!?
Forecast for today… more rain!
?
Since I was in desperate need of some sunshine in my life I thought I would take a shot at making some Spring DIY’s… and I must confess I have never EVER created a decor piece with carrots for my home. Nor did I ever really want to.
However, I had recently gone to Hobby Lobby and saw so much inspiration that I thought I would give it a try.
I came up with this cute Farmhouse Spring Sign with a fun twist…
I took this pallet sign that I had on hand (it was the same one I used for my Harvest sign last year) as well as a farmhouse truck from Dollar Tree that I bought back at Christmas.
A real crafter buys multiples of the same item and doesn’t use them till months later #crafterslife
I painted the pallet with my go-to white chalk paint and used Morning Mist by Hand Made Modern (a PLAID line found at Target) to paint the truck.
I also painted the wheels in Folkart’s Peppercorn.
Once that was dry I flipped over the truck and added a few of the tumbling blocks I had left over from my Look for Less Neiman Marcus inspired tray.
This will give the sign dimension and leave space to insert some floral foam.
Then I glued the truck in place and used three of these cute carrots I found at Dollar Tree.
I hot glued them together and placed a small dowel in between 2 of them. The dowel is to insert them into the floral foam.
Then I took one of these tags from Dollar Tree’s new craft section and made a cute “carrots ” sign. I have the coolest new tool to cut dowels! The video at the end of this post shows you exactly how to use them too.
I added 7 wooden beads and tied the end with an extra loop.
This way I could add a thumb tack to the back of the pallet sign and hang the tag over the front.
And it made the cutest sign!
But wait! There’s more!
If carrots aren’t your thang, then try this option. I got a wooden heart left over from my Valentines decor and marked a line right above the truck bed (for a reference point).
I covered the heart (above the line) with cute small roses (I got a bundle from Walmart for $1.47).
I placed it in the truck bed instead and made a new sign for “Flowers”.
Viola!
It’s a versatile sign for all occasions & holidays! Which sign do you prefer? I like both, what can I say?
Also, I have even more Spring Decor DIY’s in my latest video.
Carrots and orbs anyone? I am in love with this one!
Another fave was my carrot “wreath” for over a door! Oh and that shutter was a $6 DIY! It’s so easy to make, no expensive tools required.
