Goodwill Jewelry Box Makeover for Under $6

I was making one of my Goodwill rounds (cause it’s so hard for me to pass by that store and not go inside to see if they have any treasures!) and found this cute jewelry box for $2.92.

It needed a bit of TLC…actually A LOT, cause the inside was a disaster.

Yuck! So, I did what any DIYer would do…. gut it!

I took a screwdriver and started removing the inside compartments. Then I used a bit of that goo-gone stuff to remove any excess glue residue from the inner walls.

I knew I wanted to paint it, but I didn’t want to do the whole thing. So, I covered the bottom part with newspaper and used this spray paint I bought for another project, but had decided to go another route. I ended up keeping the can of spray paint since I really liked the color and I figured I would eventually use it on something else. Good thing I didn’t return it!

I lightly sanded and sprayed my little heart away. By the way, the color I used was Rust-Oleum’s Painter’s Touch Ultra Cover Indoor/Outdoor Paint & Primer in the color Seaside, gloss finish.

I made sure to cover the hinges with painters tape since I was too lazy to remove the top completely.

I wanted to add something cute to the top so I bought this wood medallion at Hobby Lobby for $1.99. I stained it with some stain I already had and added a bit of gold paint that I had used on this project here to get it a little shimmery.

Then I recovered the inside top and bottom with stiff felt sheets using spray adhesive; one white and one turquoise to match the lid. They were $.59 each but they were BOGO at the time so I only paid for one. I put the necklace hanger back in since it was still in good shape and added a little bit of bling to the inside.

And it was as good as new! I even added 4 clear rubber dots on each bottom corner to keep it from scratching the furniture and keep it in place, but you can’t even see them cause they are low profile ones. Love those things and I always have them on hand.

I love how it turned out! I keep it on my nightstand and I put my watch and glasses in it before going to bed.

And always remember when looking for second hand stuff, it’s not what it looks like now, but what it will look like in the end! And the best part is that it cost under $6! Gotta love that!
