This year is quickly flying by and Valentine’s Day will be here before you know it, so today I have something really special for you.
Ya know, the older I get the less knickknacks I want around the house cluttering my space especially for fleeting holidays. While I enjoy making home decor and unique pieces for my home, I want to make more meaningful pieces for my decor. And by meaningful sometimes I mean more challenging.
This year is going to be the year where I test my artistic abilities so I thought why not challenge myself in creating custom artwork for Valentine’s Day.
I love watching people paint and one of my favorite watercolor painters is Ellen Crimi Trent on YouTube. She’s amazing and I hope to one day paint as good as her. She created two beautiful watercolor pieces of art and I thought I would recreate one of them (using my stash of non-professional craft acrylic paint, LOL!)
So here goes..

I bought some canvases at the Dollar Tree (in their more expensive section). They have 3 packs for $5. I used the largest one of the pack for this.
I gave it one coat of white chalk paint. And when that dried I used a heart doily to trace a heart onto it.
Next, I taped off the inside of the heart so I wouldn’t get paint on that portion.
Then I just pulled out some of my craft paint and began adding flowers all around. I used light pink, peach and a fuchsia color.
I started with roses, made buds and honestly I just kept adding shapes all over the place. I really didn’t know how it was going to turn out.
I also added stems and random leaves throughout.
I added layers of color, waiting until the paint below dried to add more. Then I continued to fill in all the white space left around the heart.
Once I thought I did enough, I removed the tape.

Here’s how it turned out in the end! I didn’t think it was too bad considering it was my first attempt. And while I am happy I can enjoy this in my home, I figured I would share it with you all!
I adjusted the colors just a bit in order to make a more romantic and upscale look but the quality of the image turned out pretty great!
There is an 8 x 10 version as well as a printable for a Valentine’s Day card for you to use this Valentine’s Day.
I was so excited to be able to turn this into a digital print and I cannot wait to create more the better I get.
To access them simply head HERE and you will see the following page show up. Enter the information shown by the arrows.
You will then receive the following email with a special link and password to get into my private FREE library of printables where you can access the prints above as well as anything I have created in the past.
